2nd Day of Introduction Week...

After drinking from the 1st night... Slept quite alot of the 2nd night... only woke up at about 9am... and since i'm only meeting my guide and my group at 12.30pm for the trip to Copenhagen... i decided to make a trip to the supermarket... cheap one of course... it's called fakta..(sounds like fak-up) lol... as my friend say.. the store is pretty much f*** up... probably because due to the limited selection of groceries.. but oh well... it's cheap!!! how to complain?? haha

So we actually walked to the town center... near the Lyngby Station... about 20 mins walk... but since it's our 1st time walking.. we took 30 mins... due to some stops along the way to take some photograph and also some hollan-ing on the way.. hehe... here's the pics i took along the way to Lyngby Station..

One thing i realise about Lyngby... probably because it's a small town... there's not much high buildings... in fact.. all are just small buildings and they look so cute! haha... things are pretty much integrated... (u see trains, buses, people, bicycle..) and people cycle alot!! probably because the highest point in Denmark is lower than Bt timah hill... yes u never see wrongly... BT TIMAH HILL!!! haha...

Well, was looking for the shops... and when we get there.. started shopping a bit.. and it's really damn hard to shop in foreign land... i dun even know what's ham and what's not!!! everything is like so alien to me... haha... was trying to decipher what they are the signs saying... LOL... but well, bought some stuffs... probably will start cooking soon.. =X

anyway... after we finish shopping, we realised that we are kinda short of time... so we brisk walked back... legs were tired.. but we hardly sweat... it's so hard to sweat here... haha... good thing or bad thing?? i dunno.. =X

when we reach back at our container... we put down the groceries into the fridge and off we rush to meet the other guys for the Copenhagen trip.. haha...

One thing i realised after i'm at Copenhagen... it's a very very 'low-rise' capital... haha... all the buildings are short... those towering building u can see are either churches or castle... haha.. quite nice.. esp they have quite a few big squares where there's a few small cafes and u can just sit and chat and 'la kopi'(drink coffee)... quite like the feeling of it... lol :)

When we reach Copenhagen.. 1st thing we did... Canal Tour!!! :)

Too much info when the guide was saying so much about the buildings around and i was busy snapping pictures... can't really catch much.. but have some info and written it in the caption in the pictures... Didn't get to see the little Mermaid face on... the river cruise only went behind it... was snapping pic from the back when i hear a comment from a guy saying that it's stupid to see the back of Little Mermaid... which i tot it's pretty true and then i stop snapping.. =X

After tour at Copenhagen... we had dinner (buffet at this restaurant..) in Copenhagen... the meal was not bad.. at least so far the best i had... haha! Simple dinner.. chatted a bit..(trying hard to since most of my group mate dun speak english..) Then guess where we went after dinner???

If u guess Bar/Club... then ur right!!! not too hard eh??? LOL! Didn't drink this time.. some of my group mates went to queue up to buy beer... i went to the 2nd floor with another aussie grp mate to find a place to seat... chatted a while.. while waiting for the others... left the bar at about 10... dun wanna miss the last normal priced bus back... if u take mid night bus in Copenhagen.. it cost 2 times... a normal ride from Copenhagen cos me 25 DKK which is roughly... 7 SGD maybe... so yeah... damn ex!!!! :(

Well another long day.. from walking.. and imagine someone who dun club to go club for 2 conseq days... damn tired lah!!! haha... so.. early nite!! hehe...

In general.. My impression of Denmark is pretty good... nice place... though things a bit ex.. if i'm working here.. i dun really mind seriously.. haha!! but as a student... that'll be hard...

but then again.. people here no need to pay a cent for medical charges... and students here dun have to pay school fees... and in addition.. they get paid 4300DKK per mth to study for Bachelors and Masters!!! omg.. that's like 1.5k SGD!!!

but well... they do pay a damn high tax.. 40% income tax an 25% GST... haha... i guess there's no free lunch... hehe

1st day of Introduction....

After a long rest from the long journey to DTU.... i woke up twice.. once at 4am... where it's still dark... and 2nd time at 5 plus.... and what woke me up??
This!!! SUNLIGHT!! omg.... what is the sun doing up so early?!?!

Well anyway... it's a good way to start a new day... fancy waking up so early... (haven't done that on my own for like... months... wahahah)

Did some washing up... ate the digestive biscuits i bought in campus yesterday...(cost me 15 dkk... sigh...) and then it's off for my 1st day in my introduction week!!! :)

We are split into 21 groups (all the exchange students) and i am in group 5... Meeting every in canteen for breakfast... kinda felt awkward when i reach my table since i'm the only asian... in addition, the guide (Similar to councillors in singapore) weren't as "loud" as those in Singapore... My 1st impression of my guide, Louise, is that she is a very quiet girl... and well, my opinion never change for the 1st day... LOL...

Basically we we brought around DTU to familiarize with the surroundings and we had this scavenger hunt like thing... just that we only go around answering questions regarding DTU... in a sense this is good as it helps us know about the essential things.. like what buses come to DTU, where we can take buses etc etc...

After the hunt is followed by another event.. we are supposed to build a tower to hold as many beer cans as possible... The score will be height of tower in metres divide by 3 and multiply the number of cans... Our group managed to hold 16 beer cans... haha... and quite tall too... another group held 22 cans... but their height are much shorter than ours though... haha

Well one thing i realise about the Danes (which probably is quite well known..) they are very shy people... for example, my guide doesn't talk much... unlike councilors in SG... haha... However, i would say that they follow rules quite alot too... like there are cases where we want to jay walk... but the danes just stood there waiting for the green light... Also, maybe cos mine is a small town... the drivers here are nice... they actually will stop to let u cross (even if u jay-walk!!)!! haha... nice experience... Overall... quite like Denmark so far...(maybe only not the food.. since it's been buffet and i must say... it's not really good...) Tried their bread... the rye bread... and yucks.. dun like it at all.. haha =X

Anyway, we went to the cellar-bar in campus after dinner... had some drinks that... was a bit tipsy and my ears are turning red... haha... another amazing thing about the Danes... they drink alot... and yes i really mean ALOT!! My guide (female) drank 3 cans of Carlsberg during dinner... and when we get to the cellar-bar, she had another 2 MUGS of beer and 1 BOTTLE of beer... OMG... that's like... so much... haha... Well, at least... after drinking... u'll see the Danes opening up and being alot more friendly!!! haha... (so now that's what the drinks are for..)

After a night of partying... i'm finally back in my room... after shower... preparing to sleep... yawnz.... nice feeling... haha!! i'll leave u guys with some night pics!! (oh.. night sky in Denmark is quite good too!!!)

Start of the Journey...

Busy Packing on Sunday... lots of things seems unpacked and alot of last minute packing going on... but well still managed to packed all i need into that luggage which weighs a bit more than 30 kg.. :)

Had dinner with family at Crystal jade after dinner... simple chinese dinner... but it'll be 5 mths before i can taste a good chinese dish.. :(

Met up with quite a few friends who came to send me off... thanx for making the effort to come down guys!!! Also need to thank all those who send me goodluck sms... and also not forget Rakkaia, although none of the freshies came.. wahahaha... but well, the video was nice.. :) (Dun say names better.. later leave out some ppl then not too nice... hehe)

There's this weird feeling coming over me while walking through the gate... no i didn't cry... but i can't help but have this sad feeling about all the things i'm leaving behind... However, i'm also excited about all the new experience i can gain...

Plane Journey was pretty tiring... 13 hours flight to Amsterdam... to my surprise, i thought the food served by KLM was pretty good... flavour wise.. packaging wise... i quite like it all... Took a few pictures of the food with Anthony's camera but he didn't bring the cable to transfer the data so couldn't post it now... (probably have to wait till after sep... lol)

After the tedious 13 hrs flight, we finally arrived at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport... didn't have much time to really explore the airport... only left about 40 mins to walk around a bit and then check in... kinda waste.. but it's ok... i'll be making another trip to Amsterdam... heard that it's a very nice city... :)

More food while on the plane to Copenhagen... and yea i finished it all... wahahah!! And after exiting the custom... we met our Danish Buddy, Mikkel who will bring us to DTU... basically we have to take 2 trains, one from airport to Copenhagen Central Station. Then change train to Lyngby Station... Here's the tricky part... to change the train.. we have to change train platform.. and guess what.. the escalator going up is spoilt!!! omg... and yes... we have to carry our 40+ kg UP THE STAIRS... sigh... they don't have lift sadly... so me and poor Anthony are both struggling to carry our ultra heavy luggage up... haha...

Getting keys for my hostel room was pretty smooth process... (except that we have a long queue) Just ask for it at the counter, pay the rent... and i can check in... now here's the 2nd trick... We didn't really know how to get to the hostel... so we asked for directions... and either the directions are wrong... or i've heard wrongly.. after walking for quite sometime, we realised we are walking in the wrong direction!!! imagine.. 40+ of luggage.. and now we have to back track!!! OMG... after much looking around and map deciphering... we finally got to our hostel...

In DTU, the campus village's hostel is split by letters... from A to Z... and within each container... there are 9 rooms, 2 bathrooms and toilets to share and a common cooking area.... Actually the place is quite comfortable... other than the fact that i keep hitting the wall while bathing... ahah... the interior of the room is really alot better than how the exterior looks... Overall it's pretty well equiped... Maybe just lacking a cook some cooking utensils... hehe

ok so much for my 1st day... now's the most important thing... my address!!! waahahahah!! if u guys feel a bit rich, i dun mind receiving letters, parcels and gifts!!! :)
